Prof. Dr. Hasan Altunbaş graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine (1990) and completed his residency in Internal Medicine (1996) and subspecialty training in Endocrinology and Metabolism (1999) at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine. He became assistant professor in 2000, associate professor in 2005, and professor in 2010, serving on the faculty of the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Akdeniz University from 2010 to 2019. Since 2019 he has practiced at his private clinic in Antalya.
His clinical interests include thyroid disorders (hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's disease, hyperthyroidism, Graves' disease, nodular goiter, thyroid cancers and thyroiditis), parathyroid disorders, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus, overweight and obesity, adrenal disorders (primary hyperaldosteronism, Cushing's syndrome, pheochromocytoma), osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency, hyperlipidemia, hirsutism, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and pituitary gland disorders (pituitary adenomas, prolactinoma, acromegaly, pituitary insufficiency).
He has authored 55 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 41 international conference proceedings, 14 international congress abstracts published in SCI-indexed journals, 30 national journal articles, 92 national conference presentations, and 3 translated book chapters. He served as an investigator in the multicenter national TURDEP-II and TURNEP study groups, and gained research experience at Harvard Medical School's Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, USA in 2007. He held administrative roles including Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Akdeniz University (2012–2014) and Rector's Advisor (2015–2019).
