Prof. Dr. Korhan Taviloğlu was born in Istanbul in 1962. After completing his middle and high school education at Robert College (1980), he graduated from Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1986. He became a general surgery specialist at the same institution in 1991, an associate professor in 1996 and a professor in 2002. From 1987 to 2009, he worked at the Department of General Surgery, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. After Acıbadem Hospital Kadıköy (2003–2008) and Florence Nightingale Hospital (2008–2012), he has been practicing at the Taviloğlu Proctology Center since 2012.
His clinical interests are constipation, obstructed defecation, excessive contraction of the anal sphincter (anismus), surgical and non-surgical treatment of anorectal diseases, and proctology. He completed his post-residency training in laparoscopic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, USA, 1992–1993), and received training in robotic surgery (Strasbourg, 2009), laser surgery (Madrid, 2009) and proctologic laser, fistula and hemorrhoid surgery (Cologne and Rome, 2015).
He has 142 scientific articles (53 international, 89 national), has authored 43 book chapters and has edited 8 books.
